I look at the revival of this form of windsurfing with more that a little nostalgia. Living on the edge of the Carrick Roads and spending all summer windsurfing on it and racing in falmouth week - the raceboard is the perfect vehicle for enjoyable sailing from light winds to fully maxed out planing conditions.
This competitive branch of windsurfing has been dying out as manufacturers have not produced this style of board for a while and the formula wide planing style of boards took over as the most popular format- but now they are definitely back. Starboard have released their Phantom 380 raceboard and Mistral are planning to release the Equipe 3 very shortly as well. If you fancy giving it a go we have two phantoms available down at Windsport in Mylor. You can use your own rig or try a 7.5m Ezzy Zephyr rig or the new tushingham 9.5m raceboard sail. Watch out for more and more of these appearing at a beach near you.
